Customer-Friendly Catalogs Now Earth-Friendly too.
Fans include Mother Nature.

Anytown, Cal. (January 22, 2008) – Retaining its position on the leading edge of hipness, forward-thinking and social-conscience XYZ has announced that its mass-appeal catalog will go green. Utilizing a premium 100% recycled paper and soy-based inks will give the XYZ catalog even more appeal among its “green” fans, although management concedes that there may be a few angry lumberjacks out there.

The cult-like following of XYZ has always responded favorably to the unique product mix, layout, and copy style of its catalog and has helped to create and maintain a “buzz” about the offbeat, offsize, but totally on-target publication. The popular XYZ catalog has an unusually long shelf life, and customers tend to keep them around for a long time, like a cherished book. “Now, we hope to create some “buzz” with the bees, the birds and our personal favorite in the animal kingdom, the aardvark,” quips founder and chairman Mark Down. “But on the serious side, this is a huge benefit to the environment, saving the equivalent of 50,000 trees annually.”

XYZ has long been a champion of the environment but took decisive action earlier this year when they unveiled their aggressive new sustainability policy, which includes the exclusive use of recycled paper in its catalog. The design team chose Neenah Paper’s Environment® PC 100 White 70 lb. text and 80 lb. cover. Environment PC 100 is manufactured with 100% post consumer fiber, using 100% Green-e certified wind power. It is also Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, Green Seal certified and PCF (certified process chorine free). The catalogs were printed by ACME Printing Co., an FSC-certified printer, using soy-based inks.

“We chose Environment PC 100 paper for the obvious reason — its earth-friendly appeal,” said XYZ Creative Director, Biff Stevenson. “But we also selected it because it prints and performs like a premium paper, which is key to maintaining the integrity of our catalogs. The result is a sophisticated piece that’s also in line with our environmental vision.”

By using Environment PC 100 on an annual basis, verses paper made with virgin fiber and conventional electricity, XYZ will have preserved 50,000 trees for the future, saved 237,600 gallons of wastewater, and prevented 26,900 lbs. of air emissions from being generated — which is the equivalent of planting 1820 trees or not driving 29,120 miles.

About Environmental Certifications

Green-e is the nation’s leading independent certification and verification program for renewable energy and companies that use renewable energy. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification ensures responsible use of forest resources. Green Seal signifies that the paper is made with a minimum of 30% post consumer fiber and that mill processes, including packaging, are environmentally preferable. PCF certification ensures the delivery of premium papers that are manufactured free of chlorine chemistry and from sustainable raw materials.

Winds of Change Turn ACME Green

Anytown, Cal. (January 22, 2008) – ACME Printing proudly announces that effective immediately all print jobs will be produced using 100 percent renewable electrical energy from wind. ACME Printing is the first commercial printing company in Northern California to use 100 percent renewable energy to produce printed materials. ACME will use 245,290 kilowatt hours of wind power annually for the electricity needs in its printing plant and corporate offices, both located in Anytown, Cal.

How ACME Turned Green
ACME purchased three years worth of Green-e certified Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for nationwide new wind sources from XYZ, a leading provider of renewable energy. These RECs offset emissions from conventional electricity production processes that use nonrenewable fuel sources such as coal, oil and natural gas. ACME’s purchase will prevent approximately 1,024,331 pounds of carbon dioxide production, the leading greenhouse gas. The environmental benefit of this compares to 138 acres of trees planted and 803,351 miles not driven.

Stressing that environmental conservation is now more important than ever, (CEO or officer) states, “We seek to be socially responsible as well as offer our customers a way to make a positive impact on the environment by doing business with us. In addition, this commitment helps to build a market for renewable energy, reduce dependence on foreign energy sources and support our domestic economies.”

Recognizing this commitment, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded ACME membership into its Green Power Partnership and Green Power Leadership Club. To become a Partner, organizations replace a portion of their annual electricity consumption with green power. The Green Power Leadership Club further honors Green Power Partners that have made an exemplary green power purchase that significantly exceeds minimum Green Power Partnership purchase requirements.
