Print Studio Opens at MoMA

from The Museum of Modern Art

Schaeffer Environmental Award

The Museum of Modern Art will host Print Studio, an interactive space that explores the evolution of artistic practices relating to the medium of print, from January 23 to March 9, 2012. The Studio offers a series of drop-in workshops, lectures, and events that emphasize accessible and sustainable models for the production and dissemination of ideas, participants at the Studio are invited to experiment and manipulate images and text with a variety of print techniques drawing from a collection of discarded books acquired for their visual content. Led by artists and educators, activities highlight the ways in which new digital technologies incorporate traditional printing practices, re-imagining the role of print in contemporary visual culture.

New updates including upcoming programs, guest blog posts, visitor viewpoints, and images from the studio can be seen at MoMA.org/PrintStudio. The site will include a Flickr group for the collection of Print Studio “editions,” and videos of the 10-minute talks that will be held at Print Studio.

Print Studio was organized in conjunction with the Museum of Modern Art’s exhibition Print/Out (February 19–May 14, 2012), which features the evolution of artistic practices related to the print medium.
